Gun Dog Program

Our new facility is the perfect place to continue your dog’s training after our obedience program.  We will teach your dog all the skills needed to be a proficient hunting dog in the field and blind.

We use electronic collars (E-collars) to reinforce obedience on known commands and to show the dog what we want it to do.  This is called collar-conditioning.  E-collars are NOT used for punishment.  We introduce it gradually to encourage the pup to do the right thing.  E-collars can be misunderstood, and we are happy to give you a demonstration to show you exactly how we train with them.

Force fetch is the next step and main component of retriever training.  The idea is to force your dog to pick up an object (training bumper/bird) in its mouth, carry it firmly but gently and deliver it to your hand or hold it in its mouth until you take it.  This disciplines your dog how to complete a retrieve.  A force-fetched dog makes hunting easier, more efficient and therefore more enjoyable.

When your dog has completed the Gun Dog program, they will be ready to join you in the field and duck/goose blind.  Having a well-trained hunting dog makes for a lifetime of great memories!
